ABOUT THE BARRON

Situated on the top floor of the Byre, the Barron refers to the student collective that run the theatre venue in St Andrews. One of only three entirely student-run theatres in the UK, the Barron hosts a plethora of student-run events and theatrical productions!

The residency was not always at the Byre. The previous site of the Barron (on North Street, now affectionately referred to as the "Old" Barron) has been used for performing arts since 1977, when it was opened as the Crawford Arts Centre (CAC). CAC closed in 2006, and the building was reopened as the Barron in 2008. However, in the summer of 2021, the University decided to permanently close the location and move all activity to the Byre Theatre’s Lawrence Levy Studio.
